Rio 2016 Holidays

Rio Olympics 2016

The Olympic Spirit

New Hotel for Rio!

We've just managed to secure some rooms for the Olympics period at a great hotel in the sought-after Copacabana district of Rio, but judging by our previous offers they won't be available for long. Normally we hate to hurry you, but if you don't want to miss out then you need to get your skates on!

The Merlin hotel is just three blocks back from the famous Copacabana beach and has a top-floor pool as well as a sauna and fitness centre. Most importantly, it's also just 10 minutes' walk from the nearest Metro station, which will quickly whisk you to all the events all over Rio, whether at the Olympic Park, the Maracana, or up in Deodoro.

You'll find that all the rooms are modern and well-presented, and the facilities and service are sure to keep you happy during your holiday in Rio. You'll find heaps of great cafes and restaurants in Copacabana, and the nightlife of Ipanema, Leblon and Lapa is all within easy reach as well. All in all, it's a great base for exploring Rio during this exciting time.

Tickets for the Rio Olympics

You can find full details of the ticket application process on the official Rio 2016 site and some individual tickets are still available for overseas purchasers.

Locations for the Olympic Events

Most of the events will take place in the new Olympic Park in the Barra da Tijuca area in the west of Rio, but events will also be taking place in iconic venues across Rio. So for example, the famous Sambadrome will be hosting athletics and archery, while football matches will be taking place in the Maracana. Meanwhile, in the north-west of Rio, Deodoro will be hosting BMX and mountain-biking events, as well as shooting, fencing, and the pentathlon.

Extend Your Holidays

We can customise your 2016 Brazil holidays in any way you like, and please do have a look at all our Brazil holidays for some ideas, but here are some quick options to extend your trip...

Paraty Beaches

Paraty Beach Break - 5 days from £545pp

If you’d like a beach break with a side order of colonial culture, then a great choice is the small colonial town of Paraty. Nestling on the Atlantic shore, this small town was originally a shipping town for Brazil’s gold mines and is graced with lovely colonial architecture but the grand houses and cobbled streets are filled with cafes and galleries these days, while the coast around is dotted with secluded coves with warm clear waters and golden sands. This place is all about relaxation, so how you spend your time here is entirely up to you – you can enjoy the delights of Paraty itself, or even catch a boat around the coast to enjoy your own slice of tropical paradise.

Porto de Galinhas

Porto de Galinhas Beach Break - 5 days from £750pp

The North of Brazil is an amazing place to visit, yet few tourists make it up this far. You’ll land in the city of Recife, and we'll pick you up and take you to the stunning beach nearby - Porto de Galinhas. Porto de Galinhas is consistently rated one of the best beaches in Brazil, if not the world, and you can spend your time here relaxing and swimming at the beach, enjoying some of the finest Brazilian Cuisine, or even taking in a spa treatment or two. However you choose to spend your time here, it’s sure to be relaxing and something you’ll never forget.

Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls - 4 days from £750pp

No holiday in Brazil is complete without the inclusion of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, Iguazu Falls. Spanning the border between Brazil and Argentina, you’ll have two separate visits to the falls. On the Brazilian side, a long walkway along the canyon top leads you to a panoramic view of the famous Devil's Throat, where 14 separate falls combine in a drop of 350 feet, sending spray over 100 feet into the air for a permanent rainbow! The next day comes the Argentinian side, where a system of walkways projects out into the middle of the waterfall system allowing you to really feel the power of the waterfalls all around you.

Pantanal Wildlife

The Pantanal - 3 days from £875pp

This trip begins with a flight into the heart of Brazil and the state of Mato Grosso. We will land at the state capital of Cuiaba and from here will travel up to the edge of the giant Pantanal wetlands. Covering an area larger than England, the Pantanal is the best place in Brazil for wildlife-spotting (even better than the Amazon!) and on our trip downriver to the Rio Mutum lodge, we will hope to see some caiman, monkeys, capybaras and the hundreds of different species of birds. You’ll spend the next two days observing the area's wildlife by boat and on horseback, and you’ll see such as giant otters, iguanas, deer, anteaters and maybe even the elusive jaguars...

Amazon Jungle

Amazon - 3 days from £1025pp

Get back to nature by adding on some time in the Amazon jungle. Just a flight away from Rio, Salvador, Sao Paulo, and most major cities in Brazil are a range of fantastic jungle lodges where you can immerse yourself in the full rainforest experience (in comfort!) with our experienced local guides.
