Tailormade Bolivia Holidays

Bolivia is one of the most fascinating countries in South America, stretching from the snow-capped peaks of the Andes and the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca down to the tropical Yungas Valley and the weird but undoubtedly wonderful Uyuni Salt Flats...

It's also one of South America's least developed countries, and travelling here can occasionally be frustrating, but holidays in Bolivia repay you with some of South America's most fantastic sights and experiences that will stay with you forever.

Is La Paz the best place to visit in Bolivia?

Where are the Best Places to Visit in Bolivia?

The capital city, La Paz is one of South America's most enthralling cities, sitting in a dramatic volcanic bowl high in the Andes. As the highest capital city in the world, it can literally be breathtaking, but with its grand colonial buildings, bustling markets and quirky museums it's somewhere that everyone falls in love with.

Just a short drive north from La Paz lies the jewel of the Andes, Lake Titicaca. Part of Bolivia's shared border with Peru, the Bolivian side is generally acknowledged as the more beautiful and an overnight stay on the Isla del Sol is a fantastic way to spend the first night of your holidays to Bolivia. Meanwhile, the south of Bolivia offers arguably some of South America's most important colonial history, in Sucre and Potosi, but also one of South America's absolute stand out sights in the bizarrely beautiful Salar de Uyuni salt flats.

Bolivia Guide
The best times to travel to Bolivia

When is the Best Time to Visit Bolivia?

In common with highland Peru, Bolivia has a pronounced rainy season from late October through to March. Travel can be difficult during these times and in some destinations logistics can get quite difficult - in places like Uyuni and the Madidi rainforest in particular. So if possible we'd recommend travelling from roughly April through to September when the skies are usually clear.

In terms of events and festivals to try and catch, the Oruruo Carnival is the big attraction and takes place in February or March, depending on the date of Easter. Huge parades, crazy costumes, music everywhere - it's like Rio but at altitude!
