Detailed Itinerary
Day One – Begin your holiday in Peru
We will be waiting at Lima airport to meet you as you arrive in the capital of Peru, the land of the Incas. You will be taken by private transfer to your luxury hotel in the cosmopolitan Miraflores area. After you’ve checked in the rest of the day is yours to explore the area. There are numerous cafes and restaurants within a stone’s throw of your hotel all waiting to introduce you to Peru’s fine cuisine.
Day Two – Into the Amazon
This morning we will pick you up after breakfast and take you to the airport for your short flight over the Andes to Iquitos. On arrival we will be there to meet you and take you straight to the river port at Nauta to board the Delfin and start your cruise itinerary. After a welcome drink you will enjoy dinner aboard, followed by a briefing from the ship’s dedicated naturalist so that you know what to expect over the next few days. (Breakfast/Dinner/Lunch included)
Day Three – Entering the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve
On your first morning here in the Amazon we recommend an early activity to explore one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Rising early is always rewarding in the Amazon, as wildlife is abundant and very active at this time of the day, so we often begin the day with an early morning bird watching experience just before breakfast. After returning to the Delfin for breakfast, we will sail on and then disembark again, for a short hike through this pristine and unique flooded ecosystem. This classic tropical rainforest is excellent for spotting rare birds such as the bluish-fronted jacamar (seen in pairs in the middle and lower parts of forest edges), collared trogons, red capped cardinals, and more. After emerging from the depths of the forest, you will be treated to a world-class gourmet lunch and then this afternoon you will have the chance to explore one of the most exciting areas of the National Reserve. On board our aluminium skiff we will have the chance to get deep into the rainforest and observe the fantastic diversity of flora and fauna here. You will have the chance to enjoy the myriad bird species, colourful butterflies and other diverse insects, noisy monkey troops and active pink and grey river dolphins. Tonight’s dinner will be a gourmet meal served in the dining room. (B/L/D)
Day Four – Canopy Walkway and Lake Tawampa
This is a unique opportunity as we will take you to the only Canopy Walkway in this area, an experience unequalled in the rainforest! At a height of over 25 meters (85 feet) and extending for 500 meters (one-third of a mile), the Canopy Walkway provides a view of the rainforest from the treetops, the best vantage point for observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation. The suspended walkway is spread between 14 of the area's largest rainforest trees and is one of the longest canopy walkways in the world. After coming back down from the treetops, we will canoe on Lake Tawampa, where we will hope to spot giant arapaima, the largest freshwater fish in the world. Lunch will be served before we head to another beautiful lake on our excursion skiff where we will go piranha-fishing. As night falls, armed with powerful spot lights, we will start our night safari in search of night herons, pauraques, spectacled owls, up to a dozen species of croaking frogs from the river’s edge, and fish bats flying over the water scooping up fish. Spectacled and black caimans are found in these pristine waters, and our guides will point them out to you. Star-gazing at this time is unique while fireflies light up the jungle around us. Another gourmet dinner awaits you at the end of today’s activities. (B/L/D)
Day Five - Back to Lima
We will wake up this morning where the Ucayali & Marañon Rivers merge and give birth to the mighty Amazon River. In this spot, we will search for the elusive and exotic freshwater pink river dolphin. Upon returning to the Delfin I, it will be time to pack your belongings and check out. A final lunch will be served, and our kitchen staff will be at your disposal for any special requests. We will disembark at our port in Nauta, where your transportation will be waiting to take you back to the airport in Iquitos for your flight to Lima. On arrival back in the capital, we’ll take you back to your Miraflores hotel. (B/L)
Day Six – Last Day on Holiday in Peru
We have left the last day of your holiday in Peru free to make sure we can accommodate any international flight time and get you to the airport in plenty of time for your journey home. If you don’t depart until the evening we can organise some extra sightseeing for you and we always make sure you keep your hotel room until you leave for the airport so you can leave your packing until the very last minute if you so desire! What's Included?
Our standard price for this holiday in Peru is £3795 per person, which is based on two sharing a double or twin room in a 5-star hotel in Lima, and a Master Suite on the Delfin cruise ship.
That price includes all your accommodation, internal transport, transfers, tours, guides, equipment and entrance fees. It also includes all your meals in the jungle, and breakfast every day.
We don't have any "local payments" or sneaky charges: everything you have read about on this itinerary is included in that price. And because everything we do is tailor-made, we don't have fixed departure dates or minimum numbers for our trips. Outside of national holidays or other special events, this price is valid for the whole of 2020.
International flights
So with the exception of a few meals, everything on your holiday is included. What we don't include as standard is your international flights, because with these you have a huge range of options depending on the date you want to travel, the route you want to fly, and your preferred departure airport in the UK.
We aren't tied to any particular airline, and we will be delighted to discuss all options with you, or you can even book the flights yourself if you prefer: it's totally up to you.
